Web log that provides periodic reviews of movies using a new rating system in 2024. Formerly, movies were rated as a "first-date" movie and/or "first-rate movie rental". In 2022 and 2023, we rated movies on a Beer basis. See details in the sidebar below. Beginning 2024, we now use a simpler rating system - Thumbs Up/Down!
A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt.
Liked the ending where all ends well for the most part!
When a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, a mysterious stranger living among its villagers becomes their best hope for survival.
Liked the storyline and the action and pace were just right. Definitely cheering for the Heroine and her side! And, it is a sure bet most Viewers if all don't like the Admiral!
Only comment on the "bummer" side... it's two parts. So have to wait for Part Two. Luckily, it comes out April 19, 2024!
πΊπΊ Two Beers - Great movie, did not mind paying the premium at the theater. Two beers because you are paying the premium price at the theater.
Rotten Tomatoes summarizes the movie, "Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he's done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends' protector by taking on the mafia."
IMDB summary is similar, "Robert McCall finds himself at home in Southern Italy but he discovers his friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends' protector by taking on the mafia."
Jerry's Review notes, "Always a Denzel Fan! Jerry agrees with the audience on this one. Great movie with some awesome beat the bad guys up scenes!"
Checked out IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Seems the audience and Jerry were aligned in their rating of the movie. The Tomatometer Critics and IMDB liked it also but not as much as the audience and Jerry. Jerry sticks to his guns and gives it a high rating at 2 Beers πΊπΊ!

πΊπΊπΊπΊ Four Beers - Some moments to keep you watching but need four beers to stay in your seat for those moments when the movie drags.
IMDB summarizes the movie, "A bank executive receives a bomb threat while driving his children to school that his car will explode if they stop and get out."
Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus notes, "Retribution may prove mildly diverting for hardcore fans of films depicting Liam Neeson as a parent in peril, but in most respects, this thriller is strictly standard stuff."
Rotten Tomatoes Audience says, "Retribution's confined setting and divisive ending don't do it any favors, but if you've enjoyed Liam Neeson's other action movies, this one is suspenseful enough to make it worth a watch."
Jerry's Review notes, "Prefer the Old School Neeson, Not the New Neeson!"
Checked out IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Seems the audience tended to like it more than IMDB and Rotten Tomato. Jerry is agreeing with the IMDB's and Rotten Tomato's Critics. Bring back the Old School Neeson!

Rotten Tomatoes summarizes the movie, "In Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan's past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission -- not even the lives of those he cares about most."
IMDB summary is similar, "Ethan Hunt and the IMF team must track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands. Jerry's Review notes, "Even though I prefer finales to be one and done, I am good with a Part One and Two to closeout the MI franchise. Just hope it does not take too long for Part Two to come out!"
Checked out IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Seems like a repeat of John Wick 4 except with just a point or two higher with the audience and IMDB aligned in their rating of the movie. The Tomatometer Critics liked it slightly more. Jerry still rates this one high at 2 Beers πΊπΊ!

Rotten Tomatoes summarizes the movie, "A martial arts franchise that pays tribute to a real-life master of the discipline while refreshingly subverting the established expectations of the genre, the Ip Man series plays loose with the facts and fast with its fists."
This one is a tough one to summarize since it is a series of four movies. For brevity, below are the ratings from IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
Do give this one a watch! You will be surprised how well the storyline flows.

πΊπΊπΊ Three Beers - Entertaining movie, prefer to rent or stream instead of pay the premium at the theater. Three beers to keep a buzz while enjoying the movie.
IMDB summarizes the movie, "In 1961, the UN sends an Irish peacekeeper troop commanded by Commandant Pat Quinlan to Katanga, in Congo, to protect the inhabitants of the mining town of Jadotville in the beginning of a civil war. Meanwhile the UN advisor Dr. Conor Cruise O'Brien launches a military attack named Operation Morthor against the French and Belgian mercenaries. Soon there is a reprisal from the mercenaries and Quinlan and his men are left under siege by a huge number of Katangese and mercenary troops. Will the Irish soldiers resist the attack?—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil"
Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus notes, "A highly diverting film that rightly honors forgotten - and subsequently mistreated - heroes from Irish history.."
Rotten Tomatoes Audience notes, "To my delight, "The Siege of Jadotville" is not the jingoistic "Zulu" remake I had expected. It's a perfectly suitable war film touching on politics and bureaucracy as much as heroism. Average to good acting with engaging battle scenes. It's worth your time, but don't expect to be moved very much."
Jerry's Review notes, "Liked the movie mainly because it brings to light a forgotten battle. Always liked historical movies. Not a blockbuster style movie with all cinematic scenes and crazy stop motion fighting. But, still able to tells it story without losing my interest. Good one to rent on a rainy day for the history minded."
Checked out IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Audience and IMDB seem to rate the movie higher than critics. Go figure... Jerry sticks to his 3 Beers πΊπΊπΊ for the movie!

IMDB summarizes the movie, "Brodie Torrance saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island - only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare's help, and will learn there's more to Gaspare than meets the eye.—Lionsgate."
Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus notes, "Plane charts a standard action-adventure course with its cruising altitude just a few miles above Direct-to-Video -- but with Gerard Butler in the cockpit, thriller enthusiasts will still find this a fun flight."
Rotten Tomatoes Audience notes, "Check your critical thinking at the gate: The plot's preposterous and loaded with entertaining action, making Plane plenty of good old-fashioned fun."
Jerry's Review notes, "Although I watched Plane at the Movies, it was a rainy day and we had discounted tickets. Enjoyed the movie and the action, storyline was predictable but I always liked Gerard Butler's movies!"
Checked out IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Looks like the audience enjoyed the move more than critics. Jerry holds fast with 3 Beers πΊπΊπΊ but he does lean more toward the audience's appeal to the movie!

πΊπΊπΊπΊ Four Beers - Some moments to keep you watching but need four beers to stay in your seat for those moments when the movie drags.
IMDB summarizes the movie, "A young boy learns that a superhero who was thought to have gone missing after an epic battle twenty years ago may in fact still be around."
Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus notes, "Although Samaritan is better than it could have been, this Stallone-led superhero drama is creatively underpowered."
Rotten Tomatoes Audience says, "Anchored by a solid Stallone performance, Samaritan puts a refreshingly grizzled spin on the superhero movie formula."
Jerry's Review notes, "If it were not for Stallone, would have skipped it."
Checked out IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Seems the audience tended to like it more than IMDB and Rotten Tomato, but not as much as Jerry. Guess we will agree to disagree.

IMDB summarizes the movie, "Leonard (Mark Rylance), a master English tailor who's ended up in Chicago, operates a corner tailor shop with his assistant (Zoey Deutch) where he makes beautiful clothes for the only people around who can afford them: a family of vicious gangsters. One night, two killers (Dylan O'Brien, Johnny Flynn) knock on his door in need of a favor - And Leonard is thrust onto the board in a deadly game of deception and murder."
Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus notes, "The Outfit isn't flashy, but a solid story and Mark Rylance's tightly tailored performance make this a comfortable fit for fans of old-school thrillers."
Rotten Tomatoes Audience notes, "Simple but effective, The Outfit uses great performances and a smart, twist-filled plot to generate satisfying spy thrills.."
Jerry's Review notes, "Agrees with Rotten Tomatoes' Critics Consensus and Audience Notes. It is not flashy, it is simple and effective, and best yet... the acting and the storyline makes the movie and not the stage. It did feel like I was watching a play instead of a movie. Regardless this one is a good one to see!"
